Trauma Therapy In Vancouver

Heal from the pain of your past while realigning with your authentic self.

Trauma changes how we see the world, others, and ourselves. At Wellness Evolved Counselling, we combine evidence‑based trauma-informed treatment with compassionate support to help you process pain in a grounded, structured way.

Together, we make sense of your story, loosen the grip of the past, and rebuild the clarity, agency, and emotional resilience needed to move forward with confidence.

UNDErSTANDING TRAUMA
Trauma is undigested pain the body still carries, shaped by moments when feeling was unsafe. It can show up as numbness, overwhelm, tension, disrupted sleep, coping through avoidance (substance misuse or behavioural addictions), or via conflict or negative patterns in relationships.
Healing requires more than understanding what happened – it requires safely re‑experiencing and processing the emotions that were once too much to bear. When feelings can be approached in manageable doses, the nervous system learns that what was overwhelming is now survivable.
At Wellness Evolved, we meet you with safety, pacing, and curiosity so you can reconnect with what matters in a healthy way.

COMMON TRAUMAS WE TREAT

Trauma is the body and nervous system holding on to what couldn’t be felt at the time—undigested pain that protected you then and needs care now.

THE HONEST PROCESS

Trauma isn’t what happened to you; it’s what happened inside you to survive—shutting down parts of yourself, losing contact with your real needs. Healing means reconnection: meeting your experience with curiosity in the service of compassion, rebuilding safety in the body, and letting authenticity—not fear—lead. At Wellness Evolved, WE pair this stance with clear skills and expert therapeutic support so you can feel more, avoid less, and live closer to the truth of your heart.

Session 1 – 3

Intake, goals, and safety. We do not dive into the acute trauma story first. WE build a trusting relationship, establish resourcing and grounding, and set a baseline across the three domains of well-being (emotional regulation, belonging/connection, meaning/purpose). You’ll learn simple nervous-system regulation skills and curiosity practices so your body can start to feel safer. You leave with a first practice and a clear next step.

Session 4 – 5

Map triggers and avoidance patterns. Name how your system protects you—numbing, shutting down, overworking, people-pleasing—and what those strategies cost. WE introduce gentle titration and “pendulation” (touching the pain in small doses, then returning to safety). We begin shaping a light narrative outline and clarify values so you can make choices that honour what matters now.

Session 6 – 8

Careful processing at your pace. Only as capacity allows, we work with memories and meanings in a titrated, body-aware way—emotional digestion, healthy grieving, and skills for naming needs and setting boundaries. WE build a “coherence map”: what happened, what you felt, what you needed then, what you need now. Think of Kintsugi—the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold—where the “golden glue” is meaning. The aim is narrative coherence, not re-injury.

Ongoing Sessions

As stability grows, we explore how the past shows up in the present—attachment patterns, developmental wounds, and the places you learned to self-abandon in order to stay safe. WE continue resourcing, refine regulation skills, practise communication and assertiveness, and keep measuring what matters in your life. When distress flares, we meet it with curiosity, adjust the plan, and help you learn to get back into your window of tolerance.

Long Term Journey

Maintain and deepen your practices. Post-traumatic growth can be possible. This might mean greater capacity to feel without being overwhelmed, clearer purpose, and relationships that fit your values. WE strengthen conscious embodied worthiness—your lived sense that you belong in your own life—and help you keep building a life that aligns with your values

A Tailored Approach For Your Journey

We move at your pace, teaching grounding, integration, and emotional safety. The goal isn’t to push down on your emotional pain or erase the past – it’s to make peace with it. No two trauma stories are the same – and neither is the path back to well-being. We draw from Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Neurobiology, Somatic Therapy, Parts Work (IFS), Motivational Interviewing, Existential Therapy, Narrative approaches, and Clinical Hypnosis to meet you exactly where you are.

Some days that means strengthening regulation and stability; other days it means gently revisiting what was once too overwhelming to feel. We move at a pace your nervous system can handle, helping you untangle old beliefs, process stored emotion in the body, and rebuild a sense of coherence and self‑trust. The goal isn’t to relive the past – it’s to integrate it, so it no longer runs your present.

Testimonials

FIND COLOUR IN THE DARKNESS

Therapy with us is an active process. You’ll reflect, write, practice new tools, and gently push into and through avoidance patterns. Change doesn’t happen in one session but the process begins the moment you commit to it.

“Trauma is not some big dark scary ‘monster’ inside of us, some mysterious evil force working against us. Trauma is simply undigested life energy. It’s the tears we need to cry but have not yet cried, the screams we wanted to scream but didn’t. It is the shakes left unshaken, the loneliness left unfelt, the feelings repressed and stifled in order to hold up a self-image and stay safe and not fall apart. It is love that heals trauma. Love, and time, and patience, and a willingness to lean into the painful and contracted and lonely places.”
