ABOUT US

WE help people reconnect with their feelings, Other People, and what matters most

At Wellness Evolved Counselling, we help people move beyond avoidance, shame, and self-doubt into clarity, connection, and action. Therapy here isn’t about fixing what’s “broken”; it’s about helping you understand your story and build real-life skills to handle tough moments and move toward what you value. WE go at your pace and support change that lasts.

Meet Mike

MSc, MA, RCC #9467
Founder, Wellness Evolved Counselling

Mike Mathers, M.A., M.Sc., is a clinically trained addiction and trauma psychotherapist with dual master’s degrees and the founder of Wellness Evolved Counselling. He has over 15 years experience and has specialized training in individual therapy, group therapy, and psychedelic harm reduction support. Mike believes therapy should challenge with care, not simply provide comfort. He blends psychology, philosophy, and science with an approach grounded in the power of curiosity to transform shame that can help you uncover root causes of suffering and rebuild trust in yourself.

Experience

Mike has worked in residential and outpatient programs and served as clinical director of a residential addiction centre. His experience includes work with veterans, first responders and people with complex trauma. He has led PTSD, depression and anxiety groups as well as forensic groups for men convicted of sexual offences. Mike also created Resilient Living Recovery RLR, a virtual mindfulness based addiction treatment program. He pairs rigorous training with whole hearted care. The stance is simple – curiosity not shame. Sessions focus on skills + values and accountability with emotional self regulation practice – so change lasts.

Community & Advocacy

Mike is active in clinical research as a therapist in psilocybin assisted motivational enhancement therapy trials for substance use. He is trained in MDMA assisted therapy for PTSD and teaches psychedelic assisted therapy courses with ATMA Journey Centres. In practice his psychedelic work is harm reduction focused (through preparation and integration or consultation services). He does not provide or arrange medicine.

Our Team

Wellness Evolved brings together a team of registered counselors who share a single purpose: helping people grow through evidence-based therapy, deep reflection, and practical change. WE specialize in addiction and trauma treatment, with psychedelic preparation and integration offered in a harm-reduction frame.

Therapeutic Philosophy

Addiction, trauma, and avoidance often stem from disconnection from feelings, relationships, and meaning. WE help you reconnect through curiosity, accountability, and compassion. Being well means having a healthier relationship with yourself, more capacity for honest vulnerability and kindness, rather than judgment (of self and others).

Therapy here is collaborative and bold. In session, WE slow down to name patterns and build skills. Clients are supported to engage deeply, practice the skills with small behavioural experiments and apply new insights in real time between sessions.

Curiosity instead of judgement keeps you open-hearted

Accountability is a path toward self-trust and purpose

Compassion as a skill for better relationships

Conscious Embodied Worthiness as permission to be human

Being witnessed allows for repatterning safety in your nervous system
